The week from the end of the moving/estate sale to our leaving town, was busy. The sale did not meet my expectations, there was no accounting of the items sold, nor the price they brought. I had expected that - but had not confirmed it prior to hiring the company. I was told to mark every item I wanted to keep. I don't know who has tried to do this - but it's nearly impossible. I would move something to the tiny area of countertop I was given & next thing I knew, it had a price tag attached or had disappeared. Not having a contract in writing was a huge mistake & a lesson learned. When we did both my father's & mother's estates - we received a full accounting. At least I'm firm in the knowledge I will never have to live through the experience again.

The 30th, the house closed. Thankfully, after an up & down week of calls & texts. A week later than we'd hoped originally. We picked up the truck Halloween afternoon. Butch didn't waste any time getting it ready to go. There were plenty of items to load.
McMullen was super as usual to deal with; the truck even had a full tank of gas.
My last Wednesday morning with the mat making group was a sad one for me. It was very hard to say goodbye to a group of friends I'll cherish forever. Friday Diane, Juanita & I went to lunch at the
Keeping Room in Nebraska City! A trip a small group of us made at least once a year. We had so much fun & loved seeing the new Christmas decor. The three of us managed to contribute to the economy too, by purchasing new quilted vests.

Our last night on the Home Place was bittersweet. We hadn't slept in the house since the trip to Greenfield. We were organizing the trailer & getting it ready to travel. Butch sold his red Ford to a friend for his son to drive. Friends stopped by to say a final Goodbye - always so difficult!
As with our last big move, coming here - by the time the month was out - we were ready to be gone. Goodbye Iowa - we've appreciated your beauty, wide-open spaces & wonderful people. Thank you for a decade of the good life~
