A Last Visit to Greenfield~

The sale of the Home Place is still in progress.  We were hoping to be on the road west by the end of this month, but the process is more complicated than we could have imagined.  We're still hopeful things will fall into place.  We have so much planning to coordinate, the POD, the Bronco being trailered, our new place in WA etc.  We've been working off the closing date we were given.

Butch arrived home on the 8th emptied the truck over the weekend & returned it to Nationwide on the 11th.  After that - he too concentrated on the upcoming move.

Colleen, owner of Nut-N-Fancy agreed to do our "Estate Sale" this weekend.  It's taken her & her team of women days & days to get things ready.  The work involved was intense, both for her & for us...  I made I don't know how many trips across the lawn with my little wagon full of items going to the trailer.

Even Finn was confused!
By the time they were done, the house looked nothing like it used to.  We were living between the house & the trailer, going full time in the trailer just a few days ago.  It feels more like home now than our home does!  Seeing how well things fit & the comfort level was much better than I'd imagined.

I did not want to be anywhere near the sale!  We made reservations in Creston & looked forward to some time together without a house full of people.  Leaving Wednesday morning, it was great to be on the road!  In Creston we stopped at Pizza Ranch for lunch before driving to our family gravesites near Nevin.

10-21 In the country~
It's always so peaceful, quiet & serene there.  It had been almost a year since our last visit.  The Eagle we first saw late last year, is still in the area!  He's managing to carve out a territory & stay clear of the many wind turbines.  We had plenty of work to do pulling weeds, pruning peonies etc.  We planted a Lilac on the corner across from the one mom had planted years ago.

Leaving, we drove through what's left of the town.  The church where my great grandparents had their 50th wedding anniversary party has been torn down...
10-22 - Greenfield~
The following day we drove to Greenfield & decorated my parents & paternal grandparents graves.  I apologized to my mother - there's no one left to do the decorating when we leave...  It's been ten-years since she passed...
Rose Hill~
Today, we were back in Nevin.  We watered the little Lilac bush we'd planted & it looked fine.  Now if the temperatures drop & winds don't blow too hard, it might survive.
Once upon a time - the Fleming Farm~
Of course, we had to make a final drive by what had been my grandparents farm when I was young.  Where I spent my summers in heaven, riding Topsy as far as I could between dinner & supper!  It's always bittersweet, but especially so now.
McKinley Lake, Creston~
Our last stop for the day was to admire the newly dredged & refilled Lake McKinley.  With the light breeze & perfect weather it was beautiful!  Butch & Finn took a walk.  I wish I'd brought my trekking poles; the cane just isn't cutting it.

We'll be heading back to Glenwood soon.  I won't say home any longer. Home is where the heart is & our hearts are with our family in Washington.  Now - if we can manage to leave ahead of the weather.
